Griffin iClear – Case for digital player – polycarbonate – iPod touch (2G) Review

I purchased this to go with my new iPod touch second gen (it is not compatible with the first). I am overall extremely happy with the product, although there are some minor niggles.

First, whatever anyone tells you, you want a screen protector for your brand new £200 investment: no screen is scratch-proof. The included thin plastic protecter works very well – I find it impossible to tell both via the surface or the video quality whether it is on or off. The only problem I had with it is that it is incredibly hard to apply properly. I got so fraustrated with putting it on, I had to leave it and come back later. But I did get it on in the end, and it’s showing no signs of peeling off after four months of use.

On to the case itself, I find it very good. It comes in two halves which simply snap together – the back half is clouded slightly, and the front half has a lip which covers the edge of the iPod. One of my prime concerns was that a case would interfere with the screen – it doesn’t at all. The clip works well and is not loose at all, although I do have one slight problem: at the top and bottem of the iPod, there is a little bit of give in the case – i.e. it is not quite flush with the iPod. The only problem this causes is that it lets a bit of dust into the case, so I take it out periodically to clean it.

Overall, this is an excellent case. If you want something that doesn’t add too much bulk and looks stylish, and are willing to be patient (unlike myself) when applying the screen protector, you will be very pleased with it.

Oh, and it comes with a microfibre cleaning cloth too. Why, might you ask, since the iPod has one included? I lost the iPod one in a couple of days so it is nice to have a spare.
